This Tuesday, Envera has joined the celebration of the International Day Against Childhood Cancer which the World Health Organization (WHO) commemorates every February 15 to raise awareness about childhood cancer and express support for children and adolescents with cancer, some of whom also have disabilities, and their families.
Specifically, Envera has subscribed to the manifesto 'A better survival is possible' that the Pequeño Valiente Association presented last Saturday in a multitudinous act in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to claim that "survival is a stage that needs the same attention as detection or treatment and therefore must have all the necessary professionals".
Pequeño Valiente explains that "children with cancer may experience physical and/or psychosocial sequelae, which is why it is essential that different disciplines address the survival of childhood cancer" and calls for "long-term multidisciplinary follow-up of children with cancer".
Envera and Pequeño Valiente have been collaborating since 2019 to promote the care and social inclusion of children affected by childhood cancer and who have some type of disability.
Envera joins the petition to strengthen the health system, that its professionals have the necessary specific training and that their specialty is recognized so that all children with cancer receive the best care.
In addition, the beneficiaries and professionals of the Occupational Center, Training and central offices of Envera's headquarters in Madrid will hold a rally at 12:00 noon this Tuesday in solidarity with children with cancer, joining the '#PañueloChallenge' initiative of the Aladina Foundation to "pay the children the tribute they deserve".
According to the latest data from the Spanish Registry of Childhood Tumors cited by Pequeño Valiente, 1,500 children are diagnosed with childhood cancer each year in Spain and survival in children under 14 years of age is 81%.
Pequeño Valiente is an autonomous non-profit association formed by parents from the Canary Islands with minor children with cancer. Its objective is to improve the quality of life of the youngest oncohematological patients and their families. Among other services, it offers psychological, social and pedagogical care at its headquarters, and makes regular visits to the pediatric and adult oncology wards of the Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de Candelaria and the Hospital Universitario de Canarias.
Grupo Envera is a non-profit organization with transparency accredited by the Lealtad Foundation, which has been working for more than 40 years for the social and labor inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities, who are assisted throughout their lives with assistance and labor insertion services. It has branches in Madrid, Colmenar Viejo, San Fernando de Henares, Malaga, Barcelona, Tenerife and Gran Canaria, where it assists 2,500 people with disabilities a year and provides stable employment to more than 850, under the slogan " We can all be the best at something".
