From Adults to Adults, on Radio Terrícola

Madrid | November 27, 2019

In Radio Terrícola we usually do special programs where we celebrate some important event, we interview peculiar characters from the world of culture, art, politics, or anyone who has something to contribute to our avid expectations. But we also receive students, associations, companies, groups, or as it happened to us today, we welcome 25 people belonging to an adult education group of the Madrid City Council, specifically from the district of Carabanchel.

To say that there was not room for a pin is perhaps an exaggeration, but the truth is that we have run out of chairs for everyone. So on behalf of everyone, Aída de Benito and María Francisca Aquiles took the floor to introduce themselves and to clarify that they are actually students of a certain age who continue learning. They attend classes in art history, history of Madrid or reading encouragement, but also practicing yoga or playing the castanets in Sevillanas classes. Activities such as today's visit to the Envera Comprehensive Disability Center in Colmenar Viejo are part of their busy schedule. Congratulations!

So much wisdom has been concentrated in the studio that we could plan another 25 programs to hear a small part of what each of these people could surely tell us.

In all ancient cultures, elders have always been the pillar of support for future generations, always respected precisely because of that accumulation of knowledge that only years of experience can provide. But it is curious how our society pays rather little attention to them and they remain distant, as if they had nothing more to contribute. It is paradoxical that all that knowledge, so valuable and unique, is lost in the superficial gaze of those who would have so much to learn.

We have been delighted with this visit. We are excited to feel the desire they transmit for knowledge, for the eagerness of experiences that life offers, for sharing and for showing us that they have much to contribute.

We thank you for the minutes we have spent together and we hope that this next "graduation", cap in all its glory, will encourage you to continue growing and enjoying knowledge and a full life.

"Good judgment is born of good intelligence, and good intelligence derives from reason, drawn from good rules; and good rules are the daughters of good experience: common mother of all sciences and arts." Leonardo Da Vinci
