Madrid | April 17, 2024

The Palacio de Cibeles hosted this Wednesday the official presentation of the Zurich rock 'n' roll running series Madrid 2024, with the presence of the Deputy Mayor of Madrid, Inmaculada Sanz, in which the awards for Positive Sport of Diario AS were also presented to the ten social entities participating in the Dis-Friendly Relay Madrid Marathon, the marathon modality in which athletes with intellectual disabilities participate thanks to MAPOMA, Coca-Cola and Diario AS.

Among the NGOs awarded by Diario AS is Envera, a non-profit organization founded 47 years ago by the Iberia company, which cares for 5,000 people with intellectual disabilities and their families every year and provides stable employment for 850 of them.

For the third consecutive year, ten athletes with intellectual disabilities, eager to prove that there are no barriers if there is motivation, heart and team spirit, will participate in the Madrid Marathon and will complete, by relays, the official 42.195 kilometers of this "sustainable event".

All of them will run four kilometers (two two-kilometer sections) and will relay each other until kilometer 40. Once this kilometer point is reached, the ten athletes will meet again to run as a team with the Olympic gold medalist Fermín Cacho, godfather of the Dis-friendly Marathon, to the finish line located in Paseo de Recoletos.

At the presentation of the Zurich rock 'n' roll running series Madrid, Sanz recalled that "Madrid has historically run its own marathon to become the city it is today. Madrid is sport, sustainability, solidarity and a great destination open to all".

Along with the acting mayor, the event was also attended by the Councilor for Sports of the Madrid City Council, Sonia Cea; the Director General of Sports of the Community of Madrid, Alberto Tomé; the president of MAPOMA, Guillermo Jiménez; the CEO of the Zurich rock 'n' roll running series Madrid, Pedro Rumbao; the Communications Manager of Coca-Cola, Teo Dueñas; the director of AS, Vicente Jiménez; the president of Envera, José Antonio Quintero; and the athlete representing Envera, Iván Bolopa.
