For the second consecutive year, students from Envera's Professional Programs and Secondary Education attended the award ceremony of the Justice and Disability Forum Awards, organized by the General Council of the Judiciary.
Upon their arrival at the CGPJ headquarters, the students were received in the Plenary Hall by the President of the Supreme Court and the CGPJ, Carlos Lesmes, who explained the functions of the Council and the work carried out by the judges of the High Court. The students, for their part, had the opportunity to ask him about his work and how he approached his decision making. Carlota de Castro, a high school student, wanted to know "if it is more important to decide early or later, but with more elements of judgment", to which Carlos Lesmes replied that "the most important thing is to do it well".
The awards ceremony, which was presided over by Lesmes, was attended, among other personalities, by the Minister of Justice, Rafael Catalá; the State Attorney General, José Manuel Maza; the Secretary of State for Social Services and Equality, Mario Garcés; and the President of the Justice and Disability Forum, Juan Manuel Fernández, who reiterated the commitment of the judiciary to the equality and dignity of all people. They were also in charge of presenting the winners with the awards given by the Forum in recognition of their work in the social and labor integration of people with disabilities.
The awards went to CorporaciĂłn Radio TelevisiĂłn Española, for its coverage of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, the BartolomĂ© de las Casas Human Rights Institute of the Carlos III University of Madrid, former Supreme Court judge and president of the Mutualidad General Judicial, Benigno Varela, and CampofrĂo Food Group for its "Normaliza" program.
At the end of the event, the General Director of Envera, Pedro Sobrino, congratulated the President of the Supreme Court and the CGPJ for such an important initiative, which aims to contribute to "breaking down barriers" and promoting equal opportunities, "a way of enriching ourselves and society as a whole", as Carlos Lesmes said.
