The delegate of the Government Area of Social Policies, Family and Equality of the Madrid City Council, José Fernández, and the councilman president of the Barajas District, Juan Peña, have visited the headquarters of Envera in Madrid where the social entity, which was born from Iberia 47 years ago, has a Center for Early Attention, Training and Labor Insertion, Occupational Center with Residence and Guardianship Foundation for people with intellectual disabilities.
Envera is a non-profit organization open to the whole of society that serves 5,000 people with intellectual disabilities and their families every year and provides stable employment for 850 of them in its offices in Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
During the visit, the delegate met first-hand some of the people that Envera accompanies throughout their life cycle, such as Alejandro, three years old, from the Early Care and Neurodevelopmental Service for Children and Youth, where Envera serves more than 270 children with disabilities. Or Cecilia, who has spent "her whole life" at Envera, where she was first attended at the age of 5 months and now, two decades later, she is studying to get her Compulsory Secondary Education.
Fernández also had the opportunity to speak with Envera students who showed him their day-to-day activities and told him about the difficulties they still face in society today, such as finding a job.
Envera recalls the important work of the Madrid City Council for being an exemplary administration in the inclusion of people with disabilities and its support to Envera with the signing of the first agreement of training practices for students with intellectual disabilities and, on the other hand, with the edition of the Madrid Incluye Guide which brings together, for the first time and at the click of a button, all the resources available for people with intellectual disabilities in the city of Madrid.
For her part, Fernandez recalled the commitments of her Government Area for 2024 and assured that "Madrid has to become a friendly city for people with disabilities", alluding to Envera's Dis-Friendly Seal.
The delegate has made these statements during a special program of Radio Terrícola made by residents of Envera and that has been the highlight of the day. During the broadcast, the reporters have asked him about his previous responsibilities in the City Council of the capital as well as the objectives of 2024 as head of social policies.
Along with the delegate and the councilman of Barajas also participated in the visit the general coordinator of the Government Area of Social Policies, Family and Equality, Raquel Muros; the general director of Social Services and Attention to Disability, Consolación Alfaro; and the general director of Envera, Enrique Grande.
