The Vice President of Retail Banking at BBVA Asset Management, Juan Antonio Sánchez, and the BBVA regional director in the Canary Islands, Quim Soler, visited the Envera branch in Tenerife last Tuesday to learn first-hand about the social work that this NGO, which was created by the Iberia company 47 years ago, carries out to promote employment, training and social inclusion of people with disabilities.

Precisely people with disabilities will be in charge of recovering agricultural land devastated by the serious fire that ravaged Tenerife last year and affected a total of 15,000 hectares.

As reported in El Día, thanks to the 'Vesta Envera' project and in collaboration with the Municipality of La Orotava, after identifying the plots where action will be taken, technical training will be provided to the participants. Afterwards, they will move to these plots to start with the field work, removing the excess ash that has remained after the fire and trying to return to cultivate those agricultural varieties that were in production in these areas before the passage of the flames. At the same time, work will be carried out to remove specimens of eucalyptus - a species that is not native to the Islands and which has prospered very quickly after the fire - to try to replace them with vegetation native to the Canary Islands.

In addition, the ashes will be used to make natural soaps that will be donated by Envera to other local NGOs that work with homeless people or those at risk of exclusion.

The sixth BBVA Futuro Sostenible solidarity call, which recognizes social and environmental initiatives from all over Spain, supports the 'Vesta Envera' Project with an investment of 35,000 euros that will allow the training of eight people with disabilities, improving their opportunities to access the labor market, while contributing to improve the social and environmental impact in the Canary Islands.
