On November 6, the Municipal Plenary of the Town Council of Colmenar Viejo unanimously adopted the award of the Medal of the Town in the gold category to Grupo Envera - APMIB "in recognition of the work it has done over the years for the social and labor integration of people with disabilities".
This Sunday, November 22, on the occasion of Colmenar Viejo Day, the president of Envera, its general manager and several of its members were invited to the Consistory headquarters to participate in the institutional acts and receive the award from the mayor.
José Antonio Quintero, president of Envera, wanted to thank in his speech to colmenareños the distinction that represents "the affection and recognition for all people with intellectual disabilities, whose life is an example of overcoming and resistance, permanent demonstration that barriers can be demolished".
APMIB was formed in 1977 on the initiative of a group of Iberia employees, parents of people with disabilities, with the mission of bringing their children forward, looking after their care and interests during all stages of their lives. Currently, and as Envera Group, in the special employment centers and collaborating companies, half a thousand people with disabilities are employed and more than 2,000 are assisted in the early care unit, training and school support programs, employment exchange, occupational center, residences and day centers, and in the guardianship Foundation.
In 2000, Envera opened in Colmenar Viejo the day center for the care of severely affected people with intellectual disabilities and in 2011, the residence for people over 45 years of age, which assists 32 people, was launched. The special employment center in Colmenar integrates up to 130 workers with disabilities and also has an occupational center where leisure and sports activities are carried out for therapeutic or integration purposes, among which the Ícaro Sports Club or Radio Terrícola stand out.
As Quintero recognized, without the extraordinary work of Envera's workers and volunteers "none of this would have been possible". The president did not want to end his speech without thanking the residents of Colmenar for their "constant and unconditional collaboration", as well as the support of the Association's patrons (Iberia, AENA, Airbus and UNISYS) and collaborating entities such as the Montemadrid Foundation.
