Envera athletes will participate in the Popular Marathon of Madrid next April 24

Madrid | April 18, 2022

Next Sunday, April 24, the streets of the capital will become a 42-kilometer track where more than 30,000 souls will gather ready to reach the finish line in one of the different modalities offered by the Zurich RNR Running Series Madrid. Zurich RNR Running Series Madridone of the most important sporting events in the region. Two Envera athletes will participate, along with other runners with intellectual disabilities, in a relay race that will allow them to complete the race in its entirety.

For the first time in its history, the most popular marathon in Madrid will have this race adapted to athletes with intellectual disabilities, in addition to the existing modalities for runners with physical disabilities, making this event a social and inclusive reference, coinciding also with the moment in which the city holds the title of World Capital of Sport with a firm commitment to universalize physical activity among all people.

Sergio Rojas and Daniel Rodríguez, from the Ícaro-Envera team, will jump onto the asphalt up to five times: from the start at the Glorieta de Gregorio Marañón to kilometer two, from kilometer 6 to 8 (Bravo Murillo street), from 20 to 22 (Argüelles), from 26 to 28 (Príncipe Pío-Casa de Campo) and from kilometer 42 to the finish line, which will be located at Paseo de Recoletos. Envera encourages everyone to come to these stretches to cheer on their runners.

The 'Disfriendly Marathon' has been launched by MAPOMA, organizer of the marathon, with the support of Coca-Cola, was announced last April 8 during the official presentation of the Zurich RNR Running Series Madrid that took place at the City Hall headquarters with the presence of the mayor, José Luis Martínez-Almeida; the Deputy Mayor, Begoña Villacís; the Delegate of Sports, Sofía Miranda; the Deputy Minister of Sports of the Community of Madrid, Alberto Tomé; the President of MAPOMA, Guillermo Jiménez; the CEO of Zurich, Vicente Cancio; and the General Manager of Envera, Enrique Grande, who attended along with the athletes of the entity that will participate in the race.

Del Bosque, who maintains a firm commitment to inclusion through sport, permanently supports the Senegal Soccer School that bears his name and where more than 120 children find refuge from the difficulties they face every day.

Along with the former national team coach, the athletes Fermín Cacho, Martín Fiz, Abel Antón, Sara Andrés and the physician Fernando Prados, current general director of Hospitals and Health Infrastructures of the Community of Madrid, were also awarded for their work during the pandemic in front of the emergency hospital of IFEMA and the Zendal.

The double world marathon champion, Abel Antón; the CEO of the Zurich RNR Running Series Madrid, Pedro Rumbao; and the Communications Manager of Coca-Cola Europacific Partners, Eugenio García, presented the first edition of the "Disfriendly Marathon" in which several social organizations will participate. The general manager of Envera spoke at the event to "thank, on behalf of all the non-profit organizations that will meet on the 24th, the initiative launched by MAPOMA and Coca-Cola so that athletes with intellectual disabilities can demonstrate that, as we always say at Envera, we can all be the best at something if we are given the opportunity to prove it".

This action began in March with an inclusive training session led by Abel Antón at the Vallehermoso Stadium in which runners with and without disabilities participated and which was attended by the Director General of Sports of the Madrid City Council, Alicia Martín.

The day before the race, Envera will also participate in the Runner's Fair that will take place at IFEMA with a special Radio Terrícola program broadcast live at 11:00 a.m. from Coca-Cola's booth number 3.
