Canary Islands | April 20, 2022

The Gran Canarian municipality of Arucas will host, on April 27, the I Insular Day of Social and Labor Insertion of People with Disabilities, organized together with the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, where public administration, social entities and companies will meet to "share and promote efforts for the social and labor inclusion of people with disabilities, including the implementation of specific active employment policies".

Those responsible for the Employment and Labor Insertion Service of the Envera delegation in Gran Canaria will attend the meeting to participate in a round table on the role of labor intermediation, accompaniment and counseling in the social and labor insertion of these professionals.

Envera's CEO, Enrique Grande, states that "hiring people with disabilities, in addition to being an obligation under the General Disability Law, has become a strategic opportunity for many companies that have found in professionals with disabilities not only the best candidates, but also a way to develop their CSR plans, improve their reputation and customer experience, increase the feeling of belonging among their employees and reduce absenteeism, among other aspects that make them more competitive".

The forum will be inaugurated at 9:00 a.m. by the President of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, Antonio Morales; the Councilor for Employment and Local Development, Juan Díaz; the Mayor of the City of Arucas, Juan Jesús Facundo; and the Deputy Minister of Employment of the Canary Islands Government, Gustavo Santana.

Throughout the day, other public administration officials and, in addition to Envera, other social entities such as Fundación ONCE, Plena Inclusión Canarias, ADEPSI or Funcasor will also take part in the event.

On behalf of the Canary Islands business sector, Spar, Tacobell, Arehucas and Poseidón will participate, all of which already have professionals with disabilities in their ranks and are an example of social responsibility for the rest of the organizations.

From Envera they highlight "the importance of companies that decide to give the opportunity to people with intellectual disabilities to demonstrate that we can all be the best at something, contributing to equal opportunities and the development of a better society for all, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, the UN SDGs".
