We interviewed Sonia Hernandez, leader for change, on Radio Terrícola.

Gran Canaria : March 27, 2023

It is possible that in our environment we have someone who is opposing or who is living a single parenthood. But what about facing both circumstances at the same time and, in addition, with an intellectual disability? Our last guest in the studios of Radio Terrícola in Gran Canaria, Sonia Hernández, has lived both experiences demonstrating that, like her, we can all be the best at something.

Sonia is a "leader for change" and represents women with intellectual disabilities from Plena Inclusión, an associative movement that fights in Spain for the rights of people with intellectual or developmental disabilities and their families.

From Radio Terrícola we wanted to know her vision on what levels of inclusion and accessibility she has found in the health field during maternity and the development of some oppositions.

Sonia opens her life and conveys her testimony with talks on sexuality, a sexuality that encompasses everything:

"I think it's important for everyone to have a good understanding of sexuality. Itgoes far beyond the act, it's about taking care of yourself, about knowing your body and your sexual and reproductive organs as well as your feelings...""I don't talk about sex but about the topic that encompasses everything: being able to get pregnant, being able to go to a gynecologist...""My talks are about how our body changes..."

Looking to the future, Sonia tells us about a project she would like to develop focused on adapted books. She urges publishers to do more adapted reading and proposes to create a craft and cultural fair in which the creators are people with disabilities.
