Iberia's Strategy and Finance management, headed by its director José Antonio Barrionuevo, held an inclusive day at the Envera Integral Disability Center in Colmenar Viejo (Madrid), where they learned first-hand about the social work of this organization, which was founded 45 years ago at the initiative of airline employees. Today Envera is a large non-profit organization that serves 4,800 people with intellectual disabilities and their families every year and provides stable employment for more than 850 people.
During their visit to the Envera Integral Disability Center last Friday, the members of the financial management took part in a day of immersion in disability, with a tour of the Special Employment Center, where, among other tasks, they prepare the toiletry bags that are delivered on airplanes or the annual rectification of 2.5 million incorrectly processed tickets at origin through the Amadeus system. They also visited different assistance services such as the Occupational Center or the Day Center.
Afterwards, more than 80 people from Iberia together with people with intellectual disabilities from Envera performed a zumba class at the Sports Pavilion and ended the activities with a special Radio Terrícola program.
Asked about Envera's reporters, Barrionuevo said that at Envera "you contribute a lot to society and to Iberia. We are delighted to work with you".
Thanks to Iberia, Envera contributes to the creation of direct employment for people with disabilities, both in its Special Employment Centers and in the company's facilities, for example at its headquarters in Madrid or in the hangars of La Muñoza inside the Adolfo Suárez Madrid Barajas Airport.
Iberia is also a trustee of the Envera Guardianship Foundation, whose mission is to protect the rights and interests of people with intellectual disabilities whose families are at risk of abandonment.
In addition to the visit and on the occasion of last Christmas, the workers of this area of Iberia made a donation so that people with great support needs that Envera serves in its Day Center and Residences, had a new standing frame that brings them great benefits, the first of them, improving their quality of life from the first moment.
As Envera technicians explain, the standing frame "allows us to put people directly in a bipedal position, achieving a dynamic verticalization that assists the movement of the legs, and makes it possible for very dependent people to move, promoting their autonomy with a new vision of their reality".
From a physiotherapeutic point of view, "the standing frame provides correct anatomical alignment of the trunk and lower extremities, prevents muscle-tendon retractions, develops balance as well as muscle strength and endurance".
