Madrid | March 21, 2023
Ten runners. Ten people excited to run the Zurich Rock 'n' Roll Running Series Madrid on April 23rd. Ten athletes with different disabilities eager to prove that there are no barriers if there is motivation, heart and team spirit. Because this is the key to the Dis-Friendly Relay Madrid Marathon, in completing the official 42.195 kilometers of the event by relays.
Thus, each of the ten participating athletes will represent the ten social entities involved in the project. Among them, Envera, which as last year, when this unique event was held for the first time in the world, participates with its athlete Daniel.
All of them will run four kilometers (two sections of two kilometers) and will relay each other until kilometer 40. Once this kilometer point is reached, they will meet again to run as a team until the finish line located at Paseo del Prado.
The project, promoted by AD Mapoma, the Madrid City Council and Coca-Cola Spain, aims to give visibility to the participating organizations in order to raise awareness of the important work they carry out. On March 11, all of them received an award in recognition of their work during the presentation of the Disfriendly Marathon at the Vallehermoso stadium.
The presentation ceremony was attended by illustrious political and sports personalities. Sofía Miranda, Councilwoman of the Sports Area of the Madrid City Council, pointed out that "we have on the table challenges to link athletes with disabilities with major events, as is the case of the Zurich Rock 'n' Roll Running Series Madrid. Our commitment is moral and we want to give the same relevance and visibility to adapted sport. To do so, it is essential to find partners such as, in this case, Mapoma.
Teo Dueñas, from Coca-Cola Spain, and one of the architects of this beautiful project, explained that "Madrid has to be a leader and pioneer in the development of these initiatives. And we immediately saw Mapoma's commitment and enthusiasm to support these projects. For us, moreover, this year is very special because we are celebrating the 70th anniversary of Coca-Cola's arrival in our country.
Meanwhile, Pedro Rumbao, CEO of the Zurich Rock 'n' Roll Running Series Madrid, assured that "Dis-Friendly Relay Madrid Marathon is a unique initiative that not only gives visibility to adapted sports but also shows society the importance of facing great challenges united and with enthusiasm".
The presentation ceremony was also attended by former international athlete Jesús España and athlete Beatriz Álvarez, who showed their support for the athletes participating in the Dis-Friendly Relay Madrid Marathon by training with them for a few kilometers.
And now... Let's run!
