Envera - AsociaciĂłn de Empleados de Iberia Padres de Personas con Discapacidad (Association of Iberia Employees and Parents of People with Disabilities) has successfully passed the Training Program: Sustainable Suppliers of the United Nations United Nations Global CompactThe aim of the program is to transform the value chain of companies and organizations in 50 different countries for which sustainability has become a priority.
This is the case of Envera, a non-profit organization that, since its foundation in 1977, has been carrying out social work that enables people with disabilities to occupy their place in the world with dignity. Each year, Envera attends to more than 5,000 people with disabilities and their families in its People Services, and provides stable and protected employment to more than 850.
In addition, thanks to sustainable, innovative and circular economy projects such as Envera Inclusion Pointits Solidarity Recycling Center or the volunteer initiative Committed WingsEnvera has woven a network of alliances with more than twenty NGOs to which it donates humanitarian material, clothing and basic necessities to help more than 20,000 vulnerable people in Spain and abroad.
Envera does not do this work alone. To this end, it has alliances with, among others, the Red Cross, Caritas, Mensajeros de la Paz, the Vicente del Bosque Soccer School (Senegal), Volunteers for Africa (Senegal) and AUDE (Rwanda), but it also leads the Madrid Business Forum's Competitive Social Responsibility (CSR) Board and has more than half a thousand companies that rely on Envera's social work to comply with the General Law on Disability or develop social responsibility actions.
The seven-month UN program includes training on sustainability, Sustainable Development Goals, the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, sustainability reporting and incentives and internationalization of sustainable enterprises.
For Envera, obtaining the Sustainable Supplier Program certification "is one more step in the commitment and consolidation of the global sustainability strategy in an NGO whose DNA is, since its birth, pure social responsibility focused on people; because yes, we must be greener, but also more human", as Enrique Grande, Envera's general manager, points out.
According to the European Union's definition of sustainability, it links economic development, environmental protection and social justice, emphasizing values such as resilience, equal opportunities and peace for society as a whole.
The training also addressed the importance of measuring sustainability impact, communication and reporting of results and the development of ESG (environmental, social and governance) criteria as strategic elements for business organizations.
This second edition has counted with the collaboration of 37 companies and Global Compact partners such as IAG GBS - Iberia, CaixaBank, Ferrovial and Iberdrola.
