Sonsoles and Juan Felipe, Envera students, have become the first people with intellectual disabilities to do an internship in the Madrid underground. The Regional Minister of Transport of the Community of Madrid, David Pérez; the Chief Executive Officer of Metro, Silvia Roldán; and the General Manager of Envera, Enrique Grande, today presented their diplomas to these two Envera students after completing their internships in Metro's Logistics and Occupational Health Services from last February to date, during which they have completed a total of 248 hours of training.
During the ceremony, which took place at the Metro premises in Canillejas, Mr. PĂ©rez explained that as from September the program will be resumed with more incorporations. The Envera students will receive their training in the Warehouse departments, the Office of the Chief Executive Officer and the Corporate Responsibility Service as support staff in the training program for the autonomous use of the Metro network. In addition, three other young people will carry out this experience in the Clinic, the Internal Communication Service and the new headquarters of the company, in reception or visitor service functions.
The Minister also reaffirmed his commitment to the labor inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities who will do internships "in all the agencies of the Department of Transport".
For his part, the CEO of Envera has assured that "today as Madrileños have one more reason to be proud of this great company that is Metro for your commitment to real equal opportunities and inclusion; your example that prejudices can and should be demolished and the recognition that we can all be the best in something". Grande thanked the Community of Madrid, Metro and "very especially" President DĂaz Ayuso "because in Envera's life journey with people with intellectual disabilities we have always been able to count on her".
Sonsoles and Juan Felipe have made a special mention to Rafael and Oscar, Metro tutors who have accompanied them, together with their classmates, during their learning during these months.
This collaboration has been established by virtue of the agreement signed between Metro and Grupo Envera-AsociaciĂłn de Empleados de Iberia Padres de Personas con Discapacidad, a social organization that works to promote the labor insertion of this group and develops training programs in different areas.
This is the first time in the history of the suburban railway that this type of internship is carried out, which is a milestone that reinforces the objectives of insertion of the Community of Madrid. The initiative allows students to complete their training, favors their labor inclusion and their progressive incorporation into the different areas of society in a normalized and inclusive way.
