Canary Islands | November 12, 2020

This Thursday has taken place the visit of the President of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Gustavo Matos, and the second secretary of the Bureau, Luz Reverón, to the headquarters of the delegation of Envera in Tenerife to learn about the project of social and labor inclusion for people with intellectual disabilities that this NGO develops and with which serves 2.500 people a year and provides stable employment to more than 650 nationwide.

Since the beginning of the eighties, when the then Association of Iberia Employees and Parents of People with Disabilities opened two rehabilitation centers for psychomotor and speech therapy in Gran Canaria and Tenerife, Envera has maintained special roots in the Canary Islands with an Occupational Center, which serves thirty people, training programs and two Special Employment Centers with more than sixty workers with disabilities, which are a benchmark for job placement in the islands thanks to the agreements that Envera has signed with partner companies and public administrations.

Matos and Reverón have seen firsthand the work that these students do during their internships as well as some activities of the employment area such as the cartoning of masks or the preparation of Christmas baskets, among many others that Envera offers to companies to continue generating protected and supported employment for people with disabilities.

The President of the Parliament of the Canary Islands has indicated that "Envera not only trusts that we can all be better at something, but also gives the opportunity to prove it, exceeding its insertion forecasts even in times of COVID-19 with a commendable work in employment, training and insertion".

Meanwhile, Martin wanted to "thank the interest of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, and especially its president, for the situation they are facing right now people with intellectual disabilities as a result of the health and social crisis that has caused the COVID-19".
