AEHCOS and Envera sign an agreement to collaborate in the integration of people with disabilities

Malaga | August 4, 2017

Envera - Asociación de Empleados de Iberia Padres de Personas con Discapacidad and the Asociación de Empresarios Hoteleros de la Costa del Sol (AEHCOS) have signed an agreement to collaborate in improving the quality of life of people with disabilities and to promote their social and labor insertion.

This was stated by the President of AEHCOS, Luis Callejón, and the General Director of Envera, Pedro Sobrino, during an event that took place at the headquarters of AEHCOS in the town of Torremolinos, Malaga, in which both expressed their commitment to promote social actions that favor the inclusion of people with functional diversity.

Callejón wanted to emphasize the commitment of AEHCOS as "an association that develops social action policies in the field of incorporating people with disabilities into the labor market through collaboration with other organizations, such as Envera".

For his part, Sobrino has made available to hotel entrepreneurs "the experience of Envera, which has been working for 40 years for the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities and forming part of the social responsibility of companies, helping them to be more competitive". "Through consulting we support companies to be better, to comply with the General Law on Disability and to create stable employment for people with disabilities. In short," he added, "CSR brings a differential value to companies that has a direct impact on the profit and loss account".

Corporate Social Responsibility as a strategic value for companies

In Spain, for the first time in the history of the Forética Report (Asociación de Empresas y Profesionales de la RSE/sostenibilidad líder en Iberoamérica), it has been highlighted last year how citizens declared that they value CSR attributes (employees, ethics, environment, etc.) above market attributes (quality, customer service, economic results) when considering a company "a good company".

According to the same analysis, one out of every two consumers in Spain declares that they have made consumer discrimination based on CSR elements. Some 49.9% say they have bought products because they knew that a company was socially responsible, and 44.6% of consumers have stopped buying from a brand because of its bad practices with respect to society and the environment.

AEHCOS is a group with more than 350 associated hotel establishments, representing more than 88,000 hotel beds and 85% of the hotel beds in the province of Malaga. With more than 40 years, it is the oldest hotel association in Spain and the largest considering the number of associates.

It also has more than 100 collaborating companies in the tourism sector, which support members with special conditions, intensifying the work of the association in favor of continuous improvement of the Costa del Sol destination. For the last 10 years, the AEHCOS Awards have been given annually in three categories: Professional career in tourism on the Costa del Sol, Company in the tourism sector for the promotion of the Costa del Sol and Malaga Personality.

Grupo Envera is a non-profit organization founded 40 years ago by Iberia employees, whose transparency is accredited by the Fundación Lealtad, and which serves 2,500 people with intellectual disabilities every year in its early care services, neurodevelopment for children and youth, training, occupational and day center, and residences and guardianship; it employs more than 500 people with functional diversity and trains more than 300 athletes; it has the support of 250 volunteers and has a hundred collaborating entities.
