Members of the Assembly of Madrid visit Envera's Early Intervention, Training and Residence Services

Madrid | July 5, 2022

The president of the Commission for Comprehensive Disability Policies of the Assembly of Madrid, Encarnación Rivero, visited Envera's headquarters in the Madrid district of Barajas along with other representatives of the Popular Parliamentary Group to see first hand the welfare and labor integration services in which Envera assists 4,800 people with intellectual disabilities and their families every year and provides stable employment to more than 800.

Along with Rivero, also participating in the visit were the deputies Beatriz Pérez Abraham, Carla Greciano, Ana Dávila, Alejandra Serrano, Miriam Bravo and the also deputy and president of the PP of the district, Juan Peña, accompanied by the general manager of Envera, Enrique Grande.

During the conversations held between the political representatives and Envera's professionals, the latter have told them about their daily work in the Early Care and Neurodevelopment Service, which serves more than 200 children, and the Occupational Center with Residence, where 48 people live, both reference centers of the Community of Madrid that have public places.

In addition, Envera has informed the Commission of the need to eliminate waiting lists for families to have access to early intervention treatment, and at the same time has warned of the problems for children when public aid disappears when they reach the stage of compulsory schooling, which means that individualized attention that is provided, in many cases, from the first months of life, is no longer offered publicly when they reach the age of six.

For their part, the students of the different training programs that Envera offers in Madrid have shared their experience in the training internships that they usually carry out in the public administration, specifically in the Department of Transport and Infrastructures of the Community of Madrid and in Metro de Madrid, thanks to the agreement signed with the Minister David Pérez and the support of the President Isabel Díaz Ayuso for the inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.

The general director of Envera also wanted to highlight the support of the Community of Madrid to the special employment centers (CEE) of social initiative for the creation and maintenance of jobs for people with intellectual disabilities, which represent one of the groups with the greatest difficulties of labor integration, and recalled that it is "priority" to expedite the wage subsidies for these centers to prevent their "disappearance".

To conclude the meeting, the legislators participated in a special Radio Terrícola program from one of the Envera Occupational Centers together with reporters with intellectual disabilities such as Nuria, Marta and Yolanda.
