The IASS supports the social and labor integration of dependent people.


The first vice-president and councilor of Welfare, Health and Dependence, Aurelio Abreu, and the councilor of the Institute of Social and Socio-sanitary Attention, IASS, Miguel Ángel Pérez, as well as the manager of the IASS, Marta Arocha, recently met with the director and other representatives of the Association of Employees of Iberia Parents of the Disabled (APMIB)-Grupo envera, Elisabeth Martín and its salesman Sergio Hernández to evaluate the services that the Association provides at the Insular Institute of Social and Socio-sanitary Attention (IASS).

Aurelio Abreu, explained that "currently the association develops different services in IASS centers, such as the maintenance of three gardens and the cleaning service of three work centers. These services allow us to employ four people with disabilities with a degree of over 60%".

For his part, Miguel Angel Perez stressed that "in addition to these services, perform the cartoning of bath sponges that are used in various hospitals and other centers under the IASS. In this case, the work is carried out from the cartoning section, a section that has six workers, 65% of whom have intellectual disabilities and 35% have some type of physical disability, with a percentage of disability that exceeds 55%.

The director of APMIB, highlighted "the warm welcome with which we were received and the attitude of listening and recognition of the work carried out by our association in the field of attention to functional diversity". As she explained, "the purpose of the meeting was to make known the mission of our organization and our desire to continue counting on the support of the Cabildo of Tenerife, which translates into facilitating our access to employment actions". "We are currently exploring the possibility of generating a new economic activity that consists of carrying out management and document digitalization work, which could provide employment opportunities and social insertion for other people with disabilities".

The Asociación de empleados de Iberia Padres de Minusválidos (APMIB)- envera is a non-profit group born in the Iberia company, a reference in the assistance and social and labor integration of people with disabilities .

They have been working for 37 years to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities. Likewise, it serves more than 2,500 people with disabilities every year. It has a national presence in the cities of Madrid, Malaga, Barcelona, Tenerife and Las Palmas. Its activity is mainly focused on two areas: employment, collaborating with the private sector in compliance with the General Law on the rights of people with disabilities and their social inclusion, through the integration of people with disabilities in the ordinary company, the hiring of services from Special Employment Centers and donations or sponsorship action to the association and the area of assistance.

In this way, it offers support services for the development of personal, social and labor skills of people with disabilities of all ages: early care, school support, vocational training, job placement service, day and occupational centers, residences for adults, the elderly and the seriously affected, and leisure and sports activities. It has a staff of more than 550 people, of which more than 75% have some kind of functional diversity.

They have now gone a step further and have brought together the welfare and employment structures in a new brand envera Tenerife, which therefore has a Special Employment Center (CEE), whose creation dates back to 1990 and which integrates three work sections.

On the one hand, there is the handling, which performs cartoning of plastic cutlery, bath sponges, washing and cartoning of metal cutlery, shrink wrapping and labeling of products, handling for printers and advertising and marketing companies. It also offers gardening, which designs and implements gardens and performs maintenance of landscaped areas.

Another service is cleaning, which offers a comprehensive cleaning service for offices, workshops, premises and communities. The entity has a job placement and business consulting service, where they provide guidance and job placement, as well as a Human Resources Consulting Service specializing in disability.

It also has a Training Center where training projects are carried out with the commitment of job placement in companies. It has training certified by the Canary Islands Employment Service and the necessary resources to carry out global projects.
