Children and intellectual disabilities: how to deal with quarantine in the family

From the Early Care and Neurodevelopmental Service of Envera, a non-profit organization that works for the social and labor inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities and whose child and youth care team is a reference in the Community of Madrid, we put ourselves in the place of these families: we can not help but think of the parents who today are finding at home an excess of motor restlessness, high doses of irritability, tantrums more or less lasting and non-acceptance of limits, to name just some of the behaviors that can easily appear in children with developmental disorders to a drastic change in their routines and daily support. Our multidisciplinary team formed by psychologists, special education teachers, speech therapists, physiotherapists, social workers and other social and health professionals has put together some keys to make these days more bearable for the whole family.
Dr. Katy, Envera's guardian angel

Katy de los Reyes is the physician coordinator of health care at Envera's Support and Care Services. Together with her team, she watches over the health of more than 150 people in residences and day centers in Madrid and Colmenar Viejo. But in the state of national alarm in which we find ourselves, when the closure of occupational and day care centers has been decreed, her great concern are the residents who remain under the care of our organization 24 hours a day: 83 people with intellectual disabilities, including adults, elderly and major dependents.
Together we are stronger (than the coronavirus)

In view of the exceptional situation we are experiencing, Envera offers our beneficiaries, workers, families, clients, collaborators and visitors all the information about the actions we are carrying out in these difficult times, where working together will once again be the key to success for all of us. Envera maintains at all times a fluid coordination with the health and social policy authorities. Today, as always, people come first for Envera, and their welfare and the protection of their jobs and care is the mission that drives us.

Everyone -he added- has their own opinion and we have to respect it, but sport is sport for everyone, we are all sportsmen and women and we are all equal". Del Bosque made these statements in response to questions from reporters from Radio Terrícola, the radio station of Envera, a non-profit organization that assists more than 2,500 people with intellectual disabilities every year and trains 300 athletes. Vicente del Bosque will be the ambassador of 30 years of inclusive sport in Envera.
